Scott County was established in 1792 and named in honor of General Charles Scott, a Revolutionary War hero and Kentucky’s fourth governor.
In 1985, Toyota of Japan announced plans to construct a major manufacturing plant just north of Georgetown, which catalyzed a new era of industrial growth in the region. This facility has since become Toyota’s flagship manufacturing plant in North America. In conjunction with Toyota’s presence, the Lane’s Run industrial park was established to the east of the plant as part of a public-private partnership aimed at attracting high-tech employers and industries to the area.
Scott County’s Toyota facility employs over 9,900 individuals with an annual production of 550,000 vehicles and 600,000 engines.
The Emissions by Sector chart shows how much pollution Scott County created in 2021 from things like driving and powering buildings. The County Emissions Per Capita shows how much that pollution adds up to for each person living there. The County Emissions Projected to 2050 chart shows how following the Central Kentucky Climate Action Plan can help reduce this pollution over time.
The numbers are measured in a standard way (metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MT CO2e)) that compares all types of pollution to carbon dioxide, which is the most common kind. This helps us understand the total impact on the environment.
The Lexington-Fayette MSA includes six distinct counties, each at a different stage in their sustainability journey. While the CCAP outlines a unified set of reduction measures for the region, the plan acknowledges that each county may require a tailored approach to reach shared goals. The Action Menu for Scott County is shown below.
A six-county partnership driving impactful regional action for a more sustainable and resilient Central Kentucky.
